Many Members Got Sick
More than 200 crew members are believed to have called in sick to protest alleged mismanagement at the airline, sources said on Wednesday. At least more than 80 flights have been canceled since Tuesday night due to the shortage of crew members and several flights have been delayed. At the same time, there is disruption in flights at various airports including Kochi, Calicut and Bangalore.
According to the summer schedule which started in the last week of March, Air India Express has to fly 360 flights every day.
300 Employees Gave a Complaint
Last month, an employee union representing a group of Air India Express crew members alleged mismanagement at the airline. They said that employees are being discriminated against. The union claimed that they have received complaints from around 300 employees. Bad behavior of the management has a bad effect on the morale of the employees.
Passengers Got Angry on Social Media
Many passengers took to social media on Wednesday to complain about the sudden cancellation of flights. Air India Express apologized in a post made by a passenger on social media platform X. The airline said, ‘Under our service recovery process, you can either choose to reschedule the flight in the next seven days or request a refund through our chatbot Tia.’
Air India Express Gave This Clarification
In this matter, the spokesperson of Air India Express has clarified on social media platform X. He said, ‘A group of our crew members reported sudden illness last night, due to which the flights were delayed and the flights had to be cancelled. However, we are contacting the crew to find out the reason behind doing so. Our teams are proactively looking into the issue to minimize any inconvenience to passengers. We apologize for the sudden cancellation of flights and emphasize that this situation does not reflect the standard of service we strive to provide.’
The spokesperson further said, ‘People affected by flight cancellations can choose to reschedule their flights on another day or request a refund through our chat bot Tia. Guests flying with us today are requested to check whether their flight is affected before going to the airport.’
